Description:

Layer upon layer of handcrafted palm leaf fringe with a graphic twist that showcases a meticulously woven base piece. The Amua Wall Hanging brings a textural fusion of tribal and tropical to your interior.

Inspired while visiting our Fair Trade artisan partners in Bangladesh, we drew upon the thatched palm leaf roofs and fences in the villages where our macrame wall hangings are handcrafted. As soon as we spotted this technique, we envisioned it as wall hanging and adapted it to palm fringing attached to a woven base piece, similar to the mats used in their homes. Always keeping our artisans’ futures in mind, we are mindful to develop products beyond macrame with them, and so the Amua & Tala wall hangings were born.

Care

Palm leaf may change colour in direct sun, so be sure to keep your wall hanging clear of harsh rays.  This wall hanging is designed for interior use. As our artisans use palm leaf on the exterior of their homes, you may be able to hang it in an outdoor area however we cannot guarantee longevity under this circumstance.
To clean, we suggest you vacuum your wall hanging or take it outside on a dry day and shake it to remove dust particles.

Hanging

A timber rod is supplied with this wall hanging.  Or you may prefer something better suited to your interior style such as a copper or brass rod or a piece of rope.  You will require two hooks, nails or screws for each end.  This wall hanging weighs approximately 3 kgs so be sure to use suitable wall plugs and hooks for this weight.

About the Manufacture

Making a difference through design

We work with fair trade artisans around the world to create stunning natural homewares and accessories. From showstopping wall hangings to smart storage baskets, each item is made by hand – from start to finish – amongst the bustle of rural village life.

By combining contemporary design, enduring quality and unfailing ethics, we create products that tell a much bigger story than just the item itself.

A story woven with every stitch and fibre.

Our journey

Founder Shannon Sheedy created The Dharma Door after spending a year travelling in India and Nepal with her husband, Mick. The plight of Tibetan refugees motivated her to return to Australia in 2004 and design The Dharma Door’s first product – a reinterpretation of the culture’s traditional fabric prayer bag, now fondly known as The Everything Pouch.

Recognising that she was making the biggest impact by placing ongoing orders, Shannon then searched throughout the region for new products and people to work with. The journey took her to Bangladesh; the timeless craft of woven jute; and a wonderful not-for-profit NGO group who genuinely supported its artisans.

Based in their home studio in the beautiful hills surrounding Byron Bay, the couple now work together with a global team to replicate this approach across continents.

Always Natural. Always handmade. Always Fair Trade.

For us, it's all about woven texture, so every product in our collection is crafted by combining natural fibres with intricate hand making techniques.

We seek out the highest grade of fibres available and pair them with artisan skills found in various regions to create original, quality pieces that are a joy to live with.
