Asplenium bulbiferum 'Hen & Chicken Fern'

Asplenium bulbiferum is an evergreen fern species native to Australia and New Zealand.

Houseplant care: Old fronds can be removed to improve appearance.

Light: Asplenium bulbiferum thrives in many situations from shade to partial sunlight, including areas with low light. Give them medium light all year long.

Temperature: Asplenium bulbiferum do well in normal room temperatures although they can actually withstand quite low temperatures.

Stand the pots on trays or saucers of moist pebbles to increase the humidity. Frequently misting the plants is another option to keep them healthy.

Watering: During the active growth period water plentifully as often as necessary to make the potting mixture thoroughly moist.

During the rest period water sparingly, enough to keep the potting mixture from drying out. It will not hurt these ferns to dry out for a while, but it is best to keep them evenly moist.

    Monstera Adansonii 120mm

For all its delicate beauty, growing Monstera adansonii is fairly straightforward. Plant it in a pot with drainage holes using a standard potting soil that contains peat. (Peat helps to trap moisture without becoming waterlogged.)

How often should I water my monstera plant?

Monstera plants prefer a warm climate away from direct sunlight. When it comes to watering, Gisele says. "Let the top 4cm of soil dry out between watering as over watering may lead to root rot, signs of this are yellowing or wilting leaves. For best results Monsteras should enjoy conditions that are fairly moist so avoid artificial heating and cooling, they will require monthly feeding in spring and summer when planted in containers."

If your Monstera produces aerial roots, manoeuvre them towards some water.

"Plants will do better if the aerial roots that grow from the main stem can be directed into a container of water from which supplies will be drawn for the plant, thus reducing the need for too frequent watering of the mixture in the pot, these roots can be also directed into the potting mixture when re-potting," Gisele explains.

As it ages the new leaves become Swiss Cheese like, with large cut ribbons or holes in its leaves, a natural adaptation that has been the subject of intense study over the years.

    Light

Gentle sunlight is fine for the Swiss Cheese Plant, but harsh sun needs to be avoided as it will scorch and possibly yellow the leaves.

On the other side of things, dark gloomy corners need to be avoided too in order to prevent loss of the Swiss Cheese effect in the leaves and the annoying spreading effect that occurs in these conditions.

    Watering

Only moderate levels of watering are required here. When you do water make sure you aim to get all of the compost evenly moist, then wait until it has almost dried out before watering again.

You'll need to wait less time between watering's during the warmer months of the year. Or if the plant has been positioned in a very warm and dry space because all of these things will increase the thirst of your Swiss Cheese Plant.

    Humidity

It will take average to high humidity levels well, but will start to suffer if things are very dry for prolonged periods. Find ways that work for you to increase humidity if this is likely to be an issue in the spot you have chosen for it.

    Feeding

Feeding is essential if you want new, lush green growth. Use any houseplant feed and use it it at normal strength no more than once a month during periods of active growth. Reduce the amount and frequency of feed if you're finding your plant is becoming a monster and outgrowing its home too fast!

    Benefits:

These fast growing houseplants have good all round air cleaning properties and particularly effective in humidifying air conditioned interiors.

Syngonium podophyllum 'Pixie' is one of the most common variants that features light green/cream constrasted with some darker colorations throughout the leaves. Syngonium podophyllum is very popular and easy plant species to care for that is native to a wide region of Latin America - from Mexico to Bolivia  Common Names: Arrowhead plant or vine, Tri-Leaf Wonder, Nephthytis, African Evergreen, Green-Gold Nephthytis, Goosefoot Plant, Five Fingers

    Care:

Semi-sun to semi-shade; the “compacta” variety is easier to care for, requiring less light and is also slower-growing. These plants do best in bright indirect sunlight from the east/west. They can adapt to lower light levels if the watering is reduced (as it is in winter months).

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy, and do not allow the root ball to dry. Provide liquid fertilizer every two weeks in spring and summer. In fall and winter, water less often and do not feed. Mist frequently with warm water, or wipe the leaves with a damp cloth.

Remove any dead leaves. Leaf tips will go brown if the plant is under watered but this browning may be trimmed.

    Benefits:

Commonly known, as Goosefoot, nephthytis or Syngonium podophyllum is a Feng Shui plant. This plant has a distinctive leaf, which changes from arrow shaped to a five lobed form as it matures. The five lobed shape represents the five elements; water, fire, earth, wood and metal thus provides the perfect balance of Yin Yang as the new leaves are shiny and the older ones are matt.

Philodendrons are vines that clamber in trees in their native tropical habitat, thus the common name, which translates as “tree-lover.” Most form aerial roots, which in the wild help them climb trees, and in your home can be put to use to help them climb a plant pole. They grow well in most indoor light conditions at normal room temperature or slightly warmer. Allow the soil surface to dry to the touch between waterings. The Philodendron Cordatum is very possibly the easiest houseplant to grow. The plant has been used for many years as a durable accent to almost any area of the home. Heart-shaped, glossy green leaves cover this plant from top to bottom.

    Monstera Deliciosa

    $15.00

"A native to the jungles of Southern Mexico and Guatemala, the Monstera is a very easy houseplant that needs space to grow," Gisele Zanier, founder of Beyond Sunflowers," a plant emporium based in Melbourne told Better Homes and Gardens.

    Pteris Albolineata Fern

A pretty fern with marked green and white variegated leaves, tolerant of a wide range of conditions, apart from hot sun and frost. Semi-evergreen, but remove old fronds as new ones appear in spring. 8.5 cm. pot.

This fern is popular as a house plant and easy to care for.  This plant does great in pots and would also be more suitable for a large hanging basket.  Likewise, it will do fine in any terrariums of moderate size if pruned.

    Ruby Necklace|Othonna Carpensis

Ruby Necklace is an attractive trailing succulent from the daisy family. It’s mostly grown as a hanging basket plant, but is also suitable for rockeries or display plantings.

Watering: It is a tough succulent with few problems, but likes a bit more water than average. In more shade it will be greener and thicker. Produces masses of yellow daisy-like flower intermittently throughout the year.

Light: Best growing conditions for Othonna capensis is morning sun and afternoon shade. This will allow it to show strong colour but also reduce its demand for water in harsh conditions. This plant needs little else to thrive, though providing it with a large pot will allow it to grow to its full potential.

Othonna capensis suffers few pest and disease issues. The worst pest they suffer though are caterpillars. These are particularly prevalent in Summer and Autumn, and can decimate a plant quite quickly. Remain vigilant for signs for damage. Small infestations can usually be controlled by hand. For more serious infestations, use an insecticide such as Dipel or Confidor.

Crassula ovata, commonly known as jade plant, lucky plant, money plant or money tree, is a succulent plant with small pink or white flowers.

    300mm pot

    Care:

One of the most important things when you care for jade plants is to make sure that they are watered properly. Never let a jade plant dry out completely. But also, do not water a jade plant too often, as this can cause root rot. Don’t water your jade plant on a schedule. Rather, water your jade plant when the top of soil is just dry to the touch.

Another important aspect of the care and maintenance of jade plants is how much sun they receive. They need full sun in order to grow properly. If they do not have full sun, they may become stunted and leggy.  At least four hours of sunlight per day.

    Benefits:

Jade Plant for Good Luck, Prosperity and Friendship. Crassula ovata, commonly known as Jade Plant, Money Plant, Dollar Plant, Friendship Tree, Pink Joy or Lucky Plant - is a popular good luck charm in Asia thought to activate financial energies.  It is especially lucky to keep a jade plant by the entrance. We want to welcome money into the home. You may be familiar with the old saying: “Jade by the door, poor no more!”

Particular benefits of interior plants include: Reducing carbon dioxide levels. Increasing humidity. Reducing levels of certain pollutants, such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide. Reducing airborne dust levels. Keeping air temperatures down.

Pellaea rotundifolia, the button fern, is a species of fern endemic to New Zealand, where it grows in scrub and forests. It is also a popular garden plant and house plant, tolerating low temperatures but not freezing.

    140mm pot

    Care:

    • Button ferns like enough water, but detest soggy soil. Let the top portion of soil dry out between waterings. If the fronds are green and not wilted, you’ve found a perfect happy medium.
    • House your button fern in a bright or even slightly shady spot, but not in direct sun. A sun-filled kitchen or living room is a good choice.

Dracaena Janet Craig is an interior workhorse, popular for decades, used frequently as a floor plant in interior situations or mass planted in beds. Survives in low light levels, grows best in filtered light.

    Benefits:

One of the best houseplants tested for removing trichloroethylene.  This air purifier should live for decades, if properly cared for.
