What to look for …
Understanding the timber
There are several suitable timber’s for full outdoor use but teak has become the popular choice for many manufacturers, as it’s one of the strongest and most durable hardwoods. It performs well when exposed to weather conditions such as rain and sun. This is greatly due to it’s high natural oil content and the tight wood grain. Like most things, there are different grades of teak and choosing a higher grade with the right amount of oil content will impact the longevity of the timber. So always ask the question and know what you are getting.
Seat cushions
Fabric
You want to ensure the fabric is full outdoor with UV protection and water and mould resistant. Sunbrella fabric has been a leader in this area but there are other brands equal in quality.
Seat Foam
Not only is it important that the fabric be full outdoor but the seat foam also needs to be a Quick Dry Foam, resistant to moisture to help prevent the growth of mould.
Lastly, I always say to our customers, nothing is bullet proof; to get the best value and long term use out of your furniture, a little maintenance will be required. There are many great products on the market to preserve and protect your timber, so do your research but always ask your supplier for recommendations as they know their product best. In extreme and prolonged weather events bring your seat cushions under cover.
